Thank You PDX
We’re a little late on posting this, but better late than… you know. As mentioned in our previous post we attended Crafty Wonderland in Portland last Saturday-our first show. To get ready we spent the better part of two weeks cramming to get all of our dolls and marketing completed so we would have some semblance of knowing what we were doing.
We arrived early in the morning to setup our space, and were extremely nervous about how we would be received. Happily, though, everything went off wonderfully. We sold most of the dolls we had created, and the public response to the work was just awesome-especially the response from kids. There were several children that were so excited to see and purchase a doll from us. It seemed to mean so much to them, which made it all the more meaningful for us.
The big surprise for the day came in the form of a 15 minute interview and photos of our work that will be run around Thanksgiving in the Oregonian Newspaper (Portland’s main paper). The reporter was really into the dolls and asked us many questions about work process, history, and who we were. It was great, and we’re looking forward to reading the piece in a week or so.
We also ended up in a documentary that is currently being filmed on the art of craft in Portland, and what the scene is like our little city. While we were not interviewed for this, we did end up in some b-roll that they were shooting. Hopefully some of it will be used in final version.
What impressed us the most out of this whole experience, though, is how well we were received and supported by the Portland community. We met some great people and worked alongside some extremely talented artists. It was a fantastic experience for both Jill and I, and we wanted to say thank you Portland for your support in our little endeavor. You made it all worth while.
We are in the process of putting the remaining dolls up on our Etsy store, and we placed a Crafty Wonderland set on our Flickr site.
